Forms of government & the separation of powers. Antecedents to the idea of separation of power. Global distribution of the separation of powers: three systems: presidentialism blue, semi-presidentialism, parliamentarism pink (monarchies), red (monarchies) & orange (parliamentary republics) Control over, the acts of each other: the feebler branch needs to be protected against the encroachments of a more powerful branch. In republic: legislative branch = dominant: reasons for legislative preponderance, less susceptible of clear limitations, possibility to mask encroachments through uncomplicated measures. Power of the purse": reasons for executive encroachments, war, conformity w pre-existing legislative will, size of the executive (larger = more irresponsible)
