Aac (augmentative & alternative communication): *know term for midterm: comprehension, expression, pecs (picture exchange communication system) = 1 form of aac. Syntax = grammatical rules which govern how words are combined in any given language. Morpheme = smallest meaningful unit in a language: e. g. , cat, dog. Bound morpheme = morpheme which must be combined w/ another root word e. g. ing, S, -er: e. g. , running (2 morphemes: act of running, time), dogs, children. Morphology = study of rules which govern how morphemes are combined. Pragmatics = how language is used socially to communicate with others. All children w/ asd have trouble with this. Primary disorder: language impairment associated w/ other challenges e. g. intellectual disability, Gdd (global developmental delay: e. g. , down syndrome, some w/ asd. Developmental vs. acquired disorders: congenital/present at birth, some kind of insult or injury e. g. cva (cerebrovascular accident), tbi (traumatic brain injury)
