Document Summary
Motivated behaviours are a group of behaviours which appear to be purposeful and goal oriented. o motivation cannot be identified in the brain, rather it is our interference of why someone engages in a given behaviour. Regulatory behaviours are controlled primarily at the level of the hypothalamus. The hypothalamus, receives sensory information from multiple pathways and in turn maintains homeostasis via its effects on: the endocrine system (via the pituitary), the autonomic nervous system, influencing behavioural decisions. Generally we eat due to hunger: manifests as hunger pangs," which are simply muscular contractions of the stomach. Eating is at the most basic level a regulatory behaviour, necessary for survival due to its role in the maintenance of: blood sugar levels, nutrient balance, water balance, overall energy balance. However, feeding behaviour is much more complex than the simple act of eating. But ultimately as with most regulatory behaviours the primary control center for eating.
