PSCI 2701 Lecture Notes - Lecture 10: List Of Middle-Earth Rivers, Quota Sampling, Qualitative Research
Document Summary
Quantitative interviews tend to be more in depth with lots of detail. We want to know what people are thinking, how they interpret series of events, whats their response to them, what do they do as a response to it. Rigid rules to make sure there"s little modification as possible. Interviewer is in charge of the interview. Interviewers are given q"s on how too respond. More like an informal conversation, try not to repeat things, ask questions and answer questions, show interest in peoples opinions. Asking for explanation - structured in that sense. There may be some repetition - may ask someone to repeat something, make sure someone understands it. The interviewer may or may not be asking a lot of questions - depends on the setting. Unlike survey interviews, the interviewer in the unstructured interviewer makes an attempt to engage in the respondent. It"s like a conversation, sharing personal things.
