PSYC 1002 Lecture Notes - Lecture 3: Bulimia Nervosa, Leptin, Anorexia Nervosa
Document Summary
Last slides of chapter 9: race doesn"t really have any substantive meaning. There is nothing to do with someone"s smarts being linked to their race: there is absolutely pretty substantive iq scored between males and females. There are some differences in intelligence, but in general, the conclusion is that there is no reason for any male or female to have a higher iq score on anything. However, on a general rule, males come to solve certain problems using slightly different methods than females would and vice versa. They both end up with the right answer: based on family and twin studies, there is a genetic contribution to intelligence. Children who are raised in a poor and impoverished environment with a bit of help can be just as smart as richer children. There is a significant of environment to how smart we end up being: the reaction range. Maybe our genetics essentially gives us a range.
