Lecture 18: the most sexual offences are caused by a known offender. Sexual assaults are not usually reported: 90% of the victims don"t report, rates of sexual offending recidivism is 5-10%, 50% of people who commit an offence against children are pedophiles. Intrafamiliar cases are not normally reported: we want to better understand, history, challenges, complex and heterogeneous (complex terms), various types of sexual offending, recidivism assessed and treated, an individual who does an act for their own gratification. Management in the criminal justice system: case processing, corrections, re-entry and tracking. Location of the offender: demographics: age, picture, height, weight, charge, name (for high risk offenders), what they have breached, cpic: canadian police information centre, fingerprints, names/aliases, charges. Challenges: most go undetected, difficulty taking on the specific case, traumatic events, cannot disclose information. National flagging system: prosecutors have to apply for an order, not just for sexual offenders, has been funded every year, helps lawyers get information.
