PSYC 2400 Lecture Notes - Lecture 8: Cognitive Interview, Hypnosis, Recognition Memory
Document Summary
Perception: what you actually saw during the event. Retrieval: some memories are not able to be retrieved. Stage crime witness remember more because they are under less stress since it is not a real situation. Gender, hair color, clothing and height are four most reported descriptions of suspects. People are not good at reporting height (52%) System variables: can be manipulated to get better information. Estimator variable: can be studied to see its impact but cant be controlled. Ex: eye witness is under influence of drugs. Cross race: we can more easily identify people within our own race. Li study: divides students into dedicated fans and non dedicated. Dedicated fans were more easily able to identify the black players since they had more interaction and experience in a different race. Age: if the suspect is absent from a lineup, seniors have higher rates of identifying a false suspect. Confidence: very small correlation between confidence and accuracy.
