PSYC 2400 Lecture Notes - Lecture 3: Victimology, Occupational Stress, Random Assignment
Document Summary
During interview they look at your mental health and personal qualities. They try and look for honesty, problem solving, people skills and avoid other characteristics. Ask you a statement and you rate yourself on four point scale. Situational tests: put into a scenario and asked what you would do. Validity scale look for people who don"t want to disclose things about themselves, those who use impression management. Best way to tell is too look at the new recruits a year after being hired and see their performance evaluations. Problem with the ipi is that it focuses only on negative attitudes, doesn"t screen for positive things that you want a police officer to have. Comprehension: short text to read then answer questions. Logic: given sequence of events and need to put this sequence in logical order. Memory: given picture of a suspect or car and told remember it. Then asked questions about the picture several minutes later after other conversation.
