Document Summary
Notes on chapter 8 (part one- pages:275- 287) Psychometricians: are psychologists who specialize in measuring psychological characteristics such as intelligence and personality. When psychometricians research a specific question, they start with administering a large number of tests to many people. Then, they look for patterns in performance across the different tests. 1st psychological tests are accompanied by changes in the 2nd test (if the scores move together)= tests appear to measure the same factor. Example: suppose you believe intelligence is broad. So, some children are smart regardless the situation, others aren"t. Smart children should always receive high scores and less smart = lower scores. Charles spearman (1904) reported findings on the general factor of intelligence- responsible for performance on all mental tests. intelligence consists of distinct abilities. Thurstone and thurstone (1941) found that analyzed performance on many tasks and determined 7 distinct patterns: perceptual speed, word comprehension, word fluency, space, number, memory and induction.
