Baddeley and hitch working memory model: working memory is a multi-component system in which an attentional system controls and supervises subordinate, modality specific memory systems. Phonological loop: a slave system that stores and manipulates auditory information. Articulatory sub-vocal rehearsal: holds traces of acoustic or speech-based material which fades within two seconds, maintains phonological memory traces and translates visual information by sub-vocal naming. Visuospatial sketchpad: a slave system that stores and manipulates visual and spatial information. Inner scribe: encoding and rehearsal of spatial sequence. Episodic buffer: a slave system, which encode, integrates, and retrieves information in the form of conscious awareness. Central executive: a limited capacity system, which links the slaves system and ltm. It is also responsible for making plans and selecting strategies. Brooks spatial and verbal components of the act of recall . The goal was to show that verbal and visuospatial information is treated separately.
