Definition: heterogeneous group of disorders, neurological disorders that effect the way a person stores, understands, retrieves, and/or communicates information (verbal or non verbal, average or above average intelligence, have ability to learn, despite difficulty retaining information, not an intellectual disability, ranges in severity, can interfere with acquisition and/or use of: Achievement ability discrepancy is the most widely used tool for diagnosing: not reliable, compares iq scores with typical results, as students progress, academic skills should progress at a parallel rate; individuals with learning disabilities progress significantly slower, but the gap between normal development is usually not initially large enough to recognize the exceptionality. Formative assessment: assesses classroom behaviours directly, measures are taken frequently over a long period of time, and also at different times of day, evaluations used to assess progress towards educational goals and effectiveness of program designed for individual students, curriculum based assessment.
