Social policy and the tie to social work: Wherever you work in social work you are also working with social policy. Need to know how policy affects clients. Activism and understanding what is happening in reality. Taxes are an important factor of social policy. Social welfare: the group of life-sustaining activities that ensure human subsistence and thriving. Political economy is the context that shapes a given issue or aspect of human society. It is always these aspects in relation to one another not a list. It is an approach developed in the 18th and 19th c. that was influenced by the rise of capitalism and democratic governments in europe. Critical political economy is informed by marxist analysis, feminism, anti-racism and equity politics of other kinds. People make choices in their lives, but not under conditions of their own choosing .
