Essay question example: provide 2 concrete examples of the way settler colonialism and gender and sexuality are linked. Link to videos, etc. in slides are fair game. We try to fix it form the dominant position of power instead of the margins. We look at settler colonialism from the side of the settlers, we see that settler colonialism is a power relation that has two sides. Colonization = not a done event, its not over. Colonization = a power struggle with competing power knowledges that continue to exist we need to challenge how we understand western sexuality and gender by incorporating more work by indigenous activists and scholars. Ex: plantations , extraction of resources and people from african country, etc. Its colonization but not settler based (want access to markets, etc. but are not physically settling in there are) Colonizers want access to the land but indigenous cultures and societies have a specific and unique relationship to the land.
