Self-concept: composite of beliefs and feelings that indv hold about self: 2nd adaptive mode = self concept, used to guide nursing assessment and planning of care, promotes effective adaptation for people, made of feelings and beliefs. Involved in making choices r promoting health/who they are. Physical self: appearance, traits, sexuality, functioning, health and illness states: body sensation, body image. Personal self: self-consistency, organized system of ideas about self, self-ideal, relates to what one wants to be capable of doing, moral-ethical-spiritual self, belief system and evaluation of who one is in relation to the universe. Basic need= psychic and spiritual integrity need to know who you are so you can be or exist w/ sense of unity and meaning. Self-concept of indv: developed from own perceptions and feedback from how others perceive us. Process of self concept: person = has basic life processes in each adaptive mode. Include developing self, perceiving self, and focussing self.
