Document Summary

Theory week 5 learning objectives: describe the self-concept mode according to ram (include personal and physical self) Ram describes the self-concept mode as the composite of beliefs and feelings that the individual hold about self at a given time. Formed from internal perceptions and perceptions of others, self-concept directs behavior. The self-concept mode is viewed in the ram as having two components; physical and personal self. The physical self includes body sensation, and body image, and the personal self consists of self- consistency, self-ideal and moral-ethical-spiritual self. The basic processes of the self-concept mode are developing self, perceiving self and the focusing self. Perceiving self is the process whereby the individual takes in what is happening in the environment and through perception, defines who they are; this definition is based on how they interpret their input. The two compensatory adaptive processes related to self-concept are; grieving and cognitive dissonance.
