Since now it"s a revolving bridge, you have to wait till the ships pass to cross to the other side. The traffic to pass the canal were increasing. In 1932 - 1933 they decided to go under the canal (tunnel) used for cars and trains. Beside the bridge parallel was a lift bridge system. At the end of the 1990s it was replaced by a fixed bridge and closed the tunnel.
