BIOL 201 Lecture Notes - Lecture 19: Capillary, Blood Proteins, Body Fluid
Document Summary
Two main parts of our blood: blood plasma (around 75%, top layer, almost clear, matrix of connective tissue, 55% of volume, cellular elements (bottom layer, red, 45% of volume) Solvent for carrying other substances in the blood. Circulatory system is just moving blood around to receive the oxygen around the body. Defense against attack immune & lymphatic system. Unicellular organisms may produce chemicals that are toxic to other organisms. Tissue cells; blood capillary rather weak, leaking out filtered plasma blood, lymphatic capillaries (found everywhere there are capillaries in our bodies) they are accumulating fluid becoming lymph. Lymphatic capillaries into the lymphatic vessels, these vessels have one way valves. These valves are only ones who moves lymph. Lymph nodes; are packed with leukocytes (wbc) and they clean the lymph, removing viruses, bacteria, anything that doesn"t belong. Lymph; body fluid that has leaked into the lymphatic system.
