Some factor inside cod liver oil can overcome this growth inhibiion. Much later, vegetables high in carotene can also overcome this growth inhibiion. Animals eat plants and transform carotenoids into reinol. In animal foods: reinol, reinal and reinoic acid. In plant foods: the carotene family beta-carotene is the most potent. Plants contain hundreds of yellow-orange pigments called carotenoids. 12 micrograms of beta-carotene = 1 microgram of reinol to the body. Vitamin a has numerous and important funcions: cell difereniaion. Epithelial cells line the gi tract, lungs, reproducive tracts, eyes, skin, bladder: reproducion, vision. These epithelial cells of the gi tract produce mucus.
