Document Summary

They will complete their journey through mitosis and enter g1 of the next cell division. Prometaphase & metaphase you have attachments being formed from microtubules from each pole to the kinetochores, onto the sister chromatids. During prometaphase, the mts are highly d(cid:455)(cid:374)a(cid:373)i(cid:272), the(cid:396)e(cid:859)s(cid:859) a lot of (cid:373)o(cid:448)e(cid:373)e(cid:374)t, Eventually all the sister chromatids should be attached to each respective pole & aligned at metaphase plate. Spindle assembly checkpoint can become active and can sense that correct attachments have not occurred. Spindle assembly checkpoint: prevents apc (and its adaptor cdc20) from being active not able to degrade securins or cyclin. Need to down-regulate cdk1 activity because it phosphorylates many proteins in a negative way (prevents them from being active) Shows: sister chromatids aligning at metaphase plate, k fibers emanating out of kinetochores, formed at centromeres at each sister chromatids. Close up view: k5er coming into kinetochore showing a stable attachment.
