A report has a purpose, a description of an event, recommendations, analysis of a situation. Keep in mind who you are writing to, and ensure that the report fulfills their needs. Persuade the reader that they should read your report. A good report is insightful and honest while remaining politically correct. It should explain what you recommend and why. Style of writing is simple & personal (use personal pronouns) Goal of every report is to help someone make better decisions. Content which is relevant, contains facts not judgements, arguments & accurate content. On the exam: reproduce the heading style on a memo or letter. That the reader will agree w/ the recommendation. Allows you to be direct in some cases (e. g. if you have a good relationship with the person) If it"s bad news of a bad relationship, be indirect. Front matter and back matter are important but don"t add to the page count.
