Communication: using symbols to create meaning, broken into 4 categories rhetoric (art of persuasion) Advantages of communication is problem solving, decision making, innovation, efficiency, among others. Communication skills, both oral and written are the most sought after skills by employers in canada. Soft: social, interpersonal or language skills that complement technical skills. Sender --> encoding --> channel --> receiver --> decoding -->feedback. Ethnocentrism: believing one"s culture is superior to others. Horizontal --> communication across same organizational level. Low: direct, explicit communication, i. e. canada and us. High: direct communication may seem rude, social conventions, context and courtesy are important, i. e. japan and saudi arabia.
