Verifies & formats e-mail message (recipient, sender & text of message) Sends message from e-mail client to smtp server (computer that holds all of info for isp) Click send": e-mail client sends text file (message) & sender/recipient info (your address & friend"s address) to internet service provider"s. Smtp: formats message & attaches formatted info & sends to pop3 (current version) server. Pop3: sends message to friend"s e-mail client e-mail client alerts friend that he/she has received mail. Netiquette: etiquette of internet & important that you observe netiquette to not offend anyone. Avoid urgent or important : subject line should be clear & to the point.
