Course objective: the purpose of econ 318 is to interest students in issues of current debate in the public arena and to bring elementary economic analysis to bear on these issues. The only tools of analysis we will use are those developed in econ 201 and econ: a list of the types of topics we will explore appears on page 2 of this outline. We will pick up issues as they arise on a weekly basis. Course materials: the material for the course comes from a variety of sources. Hence, an ability to manage in a relatively unstructured environment is important. Each week i will post references on moodle to the relevant reading material. Frequently the material will be in the form of lecture notes. I will occasionally distribute short articles in class for reading and discussion.
