Modeling with 1s - video 6. 4 (grade 3) She only took 4 cuz she knew it was 40. She knows that 4 of these sticks are 40, she knew that they were 40 and didn"t have to count it. To count the 13 at the end she knew to count it. This child is developing place value placement but its not like she knows nothing of place value placement. But when you give kids the right tools you"ll see development and action it"s the closest you"ll get to see cognitive development. I would still call this the modeling with one strategy. But doesn"t mean that she doesn"t know anything about place value. But it"s wrong to say, that children know nothing of anything. But you can see that she has bits and pieces and that she will gain and develop more cognitive awareness to the information she is given. Modeling with 10s - video 7. 1 (grade 1)
