New historicism (other branch old historicism) Old historicism argues that literature reflects history. New historicism history also reflects literature. Presented as a causality series of causes/effects. If history is certain/stable, we can make claims about it after deconstruction versions/multiplicity arise, multiple perspectives we need to consider. History just as complex as literature is, has just as much multiplicity as a literary work) New historicism we need to read history and literature together, and there is no stable facts, it is all narrative. New historicism argues that: history is uncertain and complex, literary texts influence the socio-historical world (that socio-historical world influences the literary text, restore literature to history, tools of deconstruction to understand history as being multiple. Steven greenblatt calls his method cultural poetics. New historicism take into account how literature (art, music, etc. ) How this reflects and rethink the rest of the world.
