Herodotus, strabo gives such descriptions in their books. Mathematical and astronomical observations: the belief that the earth is a sphere: eratosthenes calculated the circumference as 40,000 km. Greek realm because based on their calculation it was only a fraction of the circumference of the earth: they then divided the world into 4 on their map.
