Document Summary

Lesson 2: from syndrome to virus to chronic condition. How to treat, manage and limit the impact of hiv/aids. Hiv = human immunodeficiency virus: no virus can get through healthy, intact skin, not everyone is highly susceptible to hiv, open sores = higher susceptibility. Sources of infection: semen, blood, vaginal fluid, breast milk. Hiv has also been isolated in: urine, saliva, tears, highly unlikely that the viral load is sufficient to transmit the disease, viral load: the amount of hiv present in different body fluids and tissues. Low possibility of transmission unlike colds: does not live outside of the human body for a long time, dry blood: exposure to air after 1 to 2 minutes will kill the virus (not robust) Host: can be any human being virus is harmless until it finds a host. No risk: no potential for transmission because all of the basic conditions for viral transmission are not present, includes, kissing, hugging, mutual masturbation.
