Ct"s main concern= emancipation, autonomy, self determination, critique for unnecessarily individual and collective freedom (in theories and practice) Use marxism ideals but new ways> challenge the basis that state organized societies > rather how we have come to think about state. 2)strategic action=manipulate someone or a state by threat incentives or rhetoric> military force to coerce or deter (examples) > threat of sanctions and prospect of gratification. 3)communicative actions=actors accept to leave some of their power to build consensus about the right action to follow. 4)strategic actions= temporary agreement> imposed by one actor on another // communicative ation > more legitimate because of consent and agreed environment. Habernas: legitimacy for specific actions occurs after discussions agreements> ex military intervention > rationally more convincing argument is significant aspect.
