State-sponsored terrorism evolved in the 80s: embraced as a deliberate instrument of foreign policy. All you need to do is pay the fighters: the pivotal moment was the seizure, in 1979, of 52 american hostages at the us embassy in tehran. Beginning of an extensive state-sponsored terrorism campaign against the united states and other western countries: since states have more money, they were able to transform and improve terrorist organizations and their capabilities. State-sponsored terrorism is geared towards pursuing foreign policy rather than obtaining publicity. They do not need to depend on public support, therefore don"t need to worry about alienating them. Tends to be more lethal than non-state-sponsored. Neither economic sanctions nor military reprisals have proven effective against state-sponsors of terrorism. Iran is the premier state sponsor of terrorism": hizbullah! (wlik ehhh!!, provide m a year to various islamic terror organizations.
