PSYC 351 Lecture Notes - Lecture 18: Reinforcement
Document Summary
Class 18 chapter 6: many complex human decisions limit your options once you have made a choice. Once the decision is made, the other alternatives are no longer available for a while: ex: after you selected and enrolled in a college, the other schools are no longer available until next semester. Responding on either key during this link does not yield food. The opportunity for reinforcement occurs only after the initial choice has been made and the pigeon has entered the next link. Terminal link: once the participant is in this link, it can no longer change alternatives until the end of the terminal link of the schedule or the end of the trial. Commitment: variety is the spice of life so participants prefer a variable schedule over a fixed schedule that yields the same overall rate of reinforcement. This has been shown to have empirical support.
