Correlation in phenotypic variation between parents and offspring. The particular trait increases in the next generation. Both grow each generation, but one will grow faster than the other. When we think about what is being passed down, we think of the genome. The fitness of a type of gene, and whether the gene is selected among other genes. Changes in the frequency of alleles that lead to variation in the phenotype related to fitness. Maintenance in frequency means there is no evolution. No natural selection, yet we see a change means that genetic drift is occuring. Genetic drift: change due to chance . traits that increase the frequency in a population that offers no evolutionary advantage. It is more likely in small populations due to less diversity and fewer numbers.
