RELI 227 Lecture Notes - Lecture 2: Bactria-Margiana Archaeological Complex, Gathas, Zoroastrianism
Document Summary
Proto indo-europeans: people who spoke a language which we imagine existed. The two kinds of evidence we mostly use is historical linguistics and archeology. Around 5k years ago a whole bunch of languages that we speak today have a common ancestor. It"ll point us to characteristics to the language that possessed all of those. How mythology relates to this : certain point in time we have access to the myths and stories to that culture (religious value, connected to rituals) They might be way off (example with crucifix ) Sometime during 2nd millennium bce arians split into 2 major groups 1 to iran 1 to india this is what linguistics tells us. Archeology: the horse sacrifice (sanskrit) whoever came up with this text, the most important ritual they had was the sacrifice. Strong evidence this text comes form outside of india cuz horses aren"t there.
