The founding fathers on sociology often disagree on the emphasis placed on the collective vs the individual. ex: durkheim collective. Weber individual: sociology can be understood as looking at the symbolic. Symbolic interactionism: huge role in human communication and understanding. Taking an item far beyond its obvious or immediate self. ex: a bald eagle makes one think of freedom, liberty, the usa, etc. It holds symbolism far beyond being a bird.
