SOEN 228 Lecture Notes - Lecture 9: Program Counter, Assembly Language, Memory Address
Document Summary
These review notes are not intended to replace your own note taking. Writing your own notes in your own words is a valuable learning tool and is also often required at the workplace (where it is called documentation). In addition, writing notes often helps both the learning process and the duration that material stays in memory. Think of note taking as early exam preparation. We had continued the discussion of the fetch execute cycle with the use of the stack. We had then reviewed the operation using two or three buses. The additional buses allowed for multiple source and destination registers to be accessed during a single clock cycle. This can increase the speed at which instructions are performed in some situations. The advantage will occur in addition and other operations where multiple registers are required by the instruction. In simple move operations there is no speed increase.
