Amos: the day of the lord/yhwh: becomes very important concept in bible, exact origins not known. It becomes a day of judgement in the future: at first it is a day of negative judgement, however, it will also be a positive one as well. This is another common theme of prophets: the prophets state that proper worship does not consist of providing sacrifices and holding religious festivals, rather, proper worship consists of practicing social justice. It can sound like a condemnation of the cult system. It is really a condemnation of the lack of social justice: they are not saying, do not practice sacrifices at all, but that sacrifices and religious ceremonies do not mean anything if one is not practicing social justice. In other words: the proper worship of yhwh elohim must include the practice of social justice: this connects to main themes of the prophets: monolatry and social justice.
