In latin, by jerome in late 4th century. The bible in the common (vulgata) language; official translation used by the catholic. German translation by martin luther in early 16th century. English translation from beginning of the 17th century. Revised version of the kjb using modern english, better original texts, and better translation methods. There are many different ways of studying the bible. Basic assumption is that the bible is true and the word of god. Agnostic : one who never believers or does not believe. Follows the principles of the scientific method. Some people (many scholars) believe the bible is the word of god and apply scientific principles. One starts from the basic principle of a complete lack of assumptions. Socrates/plato: all i know is that i know nothing . One proposes theories about the world around us, and looks at the world to see if they seem to be true.
