First of all, it must be said that catholics do not worship the virgin mary. The worship that we profess is not worship, since it corresponds only to god. Catholics venerate saint mary, because she is the woman whom god chose to be the mother of christ. In other words, mary is not just any person, she is the mother of god himself. Let us remember the passage of the visitation: "and it happened that, as soon as elizabeth heard mary"s greeting, the child jumped for joy in her womb, and elizabeth was filled with the holy spirit; and exclaiming with a loud voice, she said:" Blessed are you among women and blessed is the fruit of your bosom. "" (lk 1, 41-42) Elizabeth calls mary "blessed are you among women", and calls her in this way by inspiration of the holy spirit, which she fills up after listening to mary"s greeting.
