Dual perspectives of maturation and the development of strategies. Expectancy x value theory motivation to reach a goal is the product of our expectations for success and the value of the goal to us. If either is zero, our motivation is zero. Emphasizes participation, identities and interpersonal relations within communities of practice. Help students plan actions to accomplish self-selected goals.
