ANAT 1010 Lecture Notes - Lecture 8: Fallopian Tube, Vulva, Relaxin
Document Summary
Ovaries produce 2nd oocytes and hormones (i. e. progesterone and estrogens, inhibin, relaxin) Uterine tubes transport the 2nd oocytes + fertilized ova to uterus. Vagina and external genitalia constitute the vulva. The organs of the female reproductive system include: the ovaries, uterine (fallopian) tubes, uterus, vagina, external organs that constitute the vulva, mammary glands, the ovary: Paired organs, the size of unshelled almonds found in the upper pelvic region. The female gonads that are homologous to the testes. Each ovary contains a hilum the point of entry and exit for blood vessels and nerves along which the mesovarium is attached: follicular stages: Stages of follicular development: primordial, primary, secondary, graafian (dutch anatomist) Zona pellucida: clear ring of glycoprotein that surrounds the oocyte. Corona radiata: granulosa cells that are attached to the zona pellucida. Antrum: fluid-filled regions that are formed by granulosa cells. About 400 graafian follicles will form in a lifetime.
