Document Summary
Lecture 8 - the skeletal system: axial skeleton. Skull, hyoid, vertebrae, ribs, sternum, and ear ossicles. Protect the brain and house ear ossicles. Provide muscle attachment for jaw, neck, and facial muscles. Protect delicate sense organs of smell, vision, and taste int eh nasal, orbital, and mouth cavities. Located on the lateral wall of the cranial cavity. Zygomatic process: forms part of the zygomatic arch. Mastoid process: can be felt behind the auricle. Mandibular fossa: articulates with the mandible at the temporomandibular joint (tmj) Forms posterior part and most of the base of the cranium. Located in inferior part of the occipital bone.
