Three common features: organization of matter, living things have order (cells and organs, transformation of energy from the environment, living things maintain homeostasis, self-replication, living things accurately reproduce. Biochemistry: the scientific discipline that seeks to explain life at the molecular level. To maintain the order, it is thermodynamically unfavorable, therefore living things have to transform energy from the environment. If things replicate perfectly, there would be no variation of organisms. Prions are molecules that are able to replicate and cause disease. They don"t transform energy from the environment however: organization in the human body: Biochemistry really deals with life at the molecular level. Liver is composed of cells, cells are composed of organelles, etc. Compartmentalization although there are different molecules in the body, not all of them will be in the same place.
