Diploblast cnidaria with three layers only 2 living layers: endoderm forms the gastroderm in the adult, lining of the blind ended gut, ectoderm forms the epidermis, the skin , mesoglea is between the endoderm and ectoderm, not a living layer; not made up of cells, jelly, gastrovascular cavity food goes into it, gets digested inside, gets spit back out of the cavity. Individuals within a large animal: buds stay attached to the polyp that made them a colony forms, and food is shared through a common gastrovascular cavity, allows zooids to specialize, gastrozooid. Classes hydrozoa and scyphozoa; polyps eventually make medusae (asexually: medusae develop into either male or female individuals (dioecious) and produce gametes (cid:224) reproduce sexually. Cnidae capsule within the cell: nematocyst most notable cnidae, three functional types of cnidae, penetrate prey and inject venom penetrants, recoil and entangle prey volvents, secrete and adhesive substance used in locomotion and attachment glutinants, cnidocil hair like trigger, rapid hydrostatic pressure increase.
