Exposure and outcome are measured at the same time (snapshot) Exposure is measured before the outcome, and we are following the babies from birth: we can also do a retrospective cohort which looks back in time. A study was undertaken to test the hypothesis that chewing tobacco increases the risk of stomach cancer. Sample is selected based on outcome, then a detailed exposure history is taken. Intervention manipulated by investigator: exposure naturally occurring, may include, new therapy or treatment regime, diagnostic test, specific risk or prognostic factors, education or information package, procedure. Outcome(s: consider a primary outcome, secondary outcome, should be easily quantified, specific, valid, reproducible (should be measurable) A 30-year-old woman visits her gp complaining of moderate depression.
