CH&E 4010 Lecture Notes - Lecture 8: Stomach Cancer, Fluoxetine, Operationalization
Ch&e 4010 lecture 8 february 3, 2021 developing a research question i: pico. Unit of observation is the population, not the individual. Exposure and outcome are measured at the same time (snapshot) Exposure is measured before the outcome, and we are following the babies from birth: we can also do a retrospective cohort which looks back in time. A study was undertaken to test the hypothesis that chewing tobacco increases the risk of stomach cancer. Sample is selected based on outcome, then a detailed exposure history is taken. Intervention manipulated by investigator: exposure naturally occurring, may include, new therapy or treatment regime, diagnostic test, specific risk or prognostic factors, education or information package, procedure. Outcome(s: consider a primary outcome, secondary outcome, should be easily quantified, specific, valid, reproducible (should be measurable) A 30-year-old woman visits her gp complaining of moderate depression.
