The neptunist believe that everything was deposited in the ocean o. Thought they were coal seams on fire under the earth. The plutonist theory stated that everything was deposited by volcanoes. The earth"s lithosphere is fractured into more than 50 separate tectonic plates. The motions of the lithospheric plates are responsible for creating the shape of our planet, from the top of mountains to the trenches of the sea bottom. Changes in the configuration of oceans and continents produced by the movement of the lithospheric plate had changed the earths climates and influenced the distribution and abundance of plants and animals across the earth"s landscape. Plate tectonics - the theory of tectonic activity, which deals with lithospheric plates and their motions. A boundary where two lithospheric plates move apart (spreading boundary) When they move apart, a crack occurs in which magma rises from the mantle beneath it.
