Net energy efficiency- a measure of how much useful energy we get from an energy resource after subtracting the energy used and wasted in making the energy available. Cogeneration- also known as combined heat and power (chp) systems, is a system in which two useful forms of energy (such as steam and electricity) are produced from the same fuel source. (see pg. Fuel cell- a cell producing an electric current directly from a chemical reaction. Super-insulated house- superinsulation is an approach to building design, construction, and retrofitting that dramatically reduces heat loss (and gain) by using much higher levels of insulation and airtightness than normal. Superinsulation is one of the ancestors of the passive house approach. Solar- relating to or denoting energy derived from the sun"s rays. Also could mean: of, relating to, or determined by the sun.
