Introduction: the patterns of sexual activity can differ across time, culture, place, and more. The individual acts can vary by sexual orientation, age, physical ability, gender identity and other factors. Sexual acts may or may not involve orgasm. One area that we will cover in a subsequent chapter is variations in sexual behaviours, including fetishes, paraphilias and bdsm (bondage, discipline, dominance, submission, sadism, masochism). Models of sexual response: knowledge, beliefs and opinions surrounding the subject of sexuality are largely subjective due to personal exposure and experience. Though we can create models and diagrams for different sexual acts, there is no universal model. There are some important questions to consider when thinking about sexual response. Master and johnson: their techniques involved direct observations of sexual practices in a laboratory setting.
