o Each level of the motor system has different functions
o Tactics "how are we going to get this done"
o A lot of sensory feedback involved
o Levels of tasks that go from the association cortex to the muscles that
actually carry out the movement
o Learning changes alter motor control
o Example: Driving - when you're first learning you aren't able to have
any distractions but as you learn it, it moves down to the lower
hierarchical levels such as listen to music or have a conversation or
DO DRUGS
o Nature - goes from being completely conscious to being more automatic
o Lower motor neurons are the final common pathway of the execution of
voluntary movement
o Motor neuron is a type of neuron that distinguishes between
interneuron and sensory neurons
o Motor neurons in the spinal cord exit from the ventral root
o Axons leave through the ventral root
o Muscles operate in pairs
o Tell the spinal cord how much the muscles are contracting
o Motor neuron carries out the contraction and it has a parallel pathway
of the inhibitory interneuron
o Inhibits contraction
o Highways in the spinal cord that get their instructions from the cortex
o Cortical spinal tract is huge - starts in the cortex and ends in the
spinal cord
o Rubrospinal tract - originates in the red nucleus
o Direct cortical control - come from decisions
o Found laterally
