Phac 4001 lecture 27 march 24, 2021 immunopharmacology and anti-viral drugs iii. Pock marks in egyptian markings indicative of smallpox. There are different types of viruses with different sizes but are overall smaller than bacteria. Viruses are made up of genetic content (dna or rna) surrounded by structural proteins. There may be enzymes and nucleic acid binding proteins present but not always. All the above components make the nucleocapsid, also known as a naked capsid virus. However, the presence of nucleocapsid in addition to glycoproteins and membrane is known as an enveloped virus. Consist of a core of nucleic acid surrounded by a protein coat +/- envelope. Components of virus particle include: nucleic acid - dna or rna. Lipoprotein envelope containing viral and host cell components: destroyed by lipid solvents. Viruses are classified as rna or dna viruses. Among dna viruses, they are classified based on the presence or absence of an envelope.
