Document Summary
The on and off switches of classical conditioning: Intermittent reinforcement doesn"t follow every response, uncertainty substantially affects operant behavior. Fixed ratio (fr) reinforcemnt happens after every response. Fixed interval (fi) reinforcement happens after a certain allocated time. Latent learning learning that occurs in the absence of reinforcement: described by edward tolman exposed rats to a maze. Some reinforced with food right away, others only after several non-reinforced trials. Shows that rats must have formed a mental map of space based on their behavior. The rats that were hungry and no food in the first then food added were the best at finishing the maze. Expectation matters, if they get what they expected they work more, if they don"t they work less. When you eat something and have a bad experience, you don"t approach it anymore. Learned avoidance of a particular taste when nausea occurs after food is eaten.
