Thalidomide drug for pregnant women to cure morning sickness. Sometimes strongest in the germinal stage but sometimes isn"t since the zygote/ fetus isn"t connected to the mother yet. Sucked more to hear mother"s voice than another woman. Because they hear the mother"s voice in the womb. Infants increased sucking rate to hear familiar story. Mothers read stories to fetuses each day for the last 6 weeks of pregnancy. Sucking elicited new story or same story. Hearing ears connected to the brain by ~ 18 weeks. Smell and taste may be influenced by chemicals in amniotic fluid. Changes in physical movement and motor control. Cephalocaudal principle development proceeds in a head-to-foot direction. Proximodistal principle development begins inner and then moves outwards. Motor control develops in a stage-like fashion (except for some reflexes) crawling. There"s a link between physical and cognitive development. Drop-out, starting around 6 weeks of life (declines)
